Course Description

The ultimate dental laser seminar for dentists & hygienists. This comprehensive seminar will provide an overview of the basic fundamentals, safety, and practical indications for use of lasers in the general and specialty practice. Plus, learn about the latest innovations in the field of laser dentistry including the capabilities and unique benefits of specific wavelengths for implant dentistry, airway (snoring) and facial aesthetics.

Non-Invasive Fractional Laser Treatments for Snoring. Airway disorders in adults and children have become an increasingly important area of interest for general dentistry and an opportunity exists for dentists to play an integral role working together with clinicians to diagnose and treat a variety of airway disorders. The subject matter of this educational program will address the role of laser technology in the treatment of breathing disorders affecting pediatric and adult patients including snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).   One of the main factors driving this growth opportunity in dental care appears to be increased awareness of the of the long term effects of obstructive sleep apnea, including links to other diseases (cardiovascular, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and cognitive impairments) as well as alternative technologies (appliances), procedures and treatment options.

Tens of millions of patients suffer from the side effects of snoring and sleep apnea.  Learn about the role of lasers for the treatment of snoring including case selection, limitations and co-therapies. Understand the essential role dentists can play in the treatment of snoring and improvement in their patients quality of life addressing restless sleep, anxiety, cognitive abilities and depression.  The keynote address will cover diagnosis, case selection, limitations of treatment, practice integration and technology including the minimally invasive laser treatment protocol and the value of imaging and photography associated with diagnosis and treatment. Finally,  review of the science including alternative technologies (by wavelength) and technique will demonstrate the role lasers can play in performing office based minimally invasive treatments for snoring and other symptoms of breathing disorders in adults and children.

Additional clinical procedures which can be performed with some of the lasers capable of performing sleep disorder treatments will also be presented include but not limited to; virtually bloodless soft tissue procedures, periodontal therapy and surgery, and lasers for use in implantology including the treatment of periimplantitis.  Learn what you need to know to make an informed decision regarding the most versatile devices for dentistry!

  • minimally invasive soft tissue surgeries for general operative dentistry

  • periodontal therapy (hygiene) and surgery

  • lasers and implants, periimplantitis & perimucositis treatments

  • infant tongue ties release, and

Facial aesthetics as a compliment to cosmetic dental procedures.  Learn how to further harness the precision and clinical efficacy of fractional C02 laser energy, the gold standard in facial aesthetics, to profitably grow revenues with minimally invasive facial aesthetics!

Enhanced hygiene and laser periodotal therapy for general dentists and hygienists! This unique segment of the course will discuss in detail how lasers enhance the anti-infective model, explain the host-immune response, biological testing methods, laser safety and comfort control, treatment planning and documentation, insurance coding and scheduling, case presentation to increase case acceptance, and marketing and implementation.

The hands-on segment of the program will give participants an opportunity to experience the functionality of lasers performing surgical procedures on in-vitro models. Live demonstration and video guiding the clinical simulation will incorporate the relevance of settings and technique for optimized clinical outcomes.  This interactive experience will also facilitate an open dialogue between participants and one on one with the instructor, comprising clinical & practical considerations for the successful implementation of dental laser technology. Attendees will have the opportunity to perform various clinical procedures, including;

  1. Different Techniques; for incision/excision, coagulation, disinfection & healing

  2. Techniques for minimally invasive office based snoring treatments

  3. Operative Dentistry Including; tissue troughing, fibroma/biopsy, gingivectomy, frenectomy, vestibuloplasty, aphthous ulcers, periodontal therapy, surgical flap procedures, de-epithelialization & more.

  4. Specific procedures and protocols for laser assisted hygiene procedures.

  5. Laser safety considerations, settings, care, sterilization protocols & system maintenance

Course Objectives

  • an understanding of the fundamental science including absorption characteristics and corresponding tissue interactions of different laser wavelengths

  • learn the role and importance of working together with clinicians in identifying sleep disorders, recognizing their symptoms, co-morbidities, educating patients, case selection, diagnosis, treatment limitations and working with co-therapies,

  • an understanding of how and which dental laser technologies can be incorporated to treat airway  disorders including snoring and other symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)

  • become familiar with the various sleep studies, sleep disorder evaluation systems and protocols to evaluate clinical outcomes

  • an understanding of clinical indications for use, case selection and patient management

  • understanding the paradigm shifts in periodontics that have led to a medical approach to the infectious disease process and essential diagnostic testing to evaluate periodontal pathogens, genetic susceptibility, & biomarkers

    • learn about ultrasonics, systemic and localized antibiotics, guided biofilm disruption, CO2 lasers & photo bio-modulation, plus

    • effective case typing and treatment planning and how to bill non-surgical therapy and maximize insurance benefits.
